Yes. PGN offers a free tier that gives you access to lobbies, matchmaking, and basic statistics. Premium tiers with additional features (advanced stats, priority matchmaking, and more) are planned for the future.
No. PGN does not sell, distribute, or host any game files. You must bring your own legitimate copy of any game you wish to play. We only provide the multiplayer infrastructure.
Many classic RTS games require DirectPlay, a legacy Windows networking component that is disabled by default on modern systems. The PGN Client automatically detects whether DirectPlay is installed and guides you through enabling it if needed. We are also developing our own DirectPlay 4 Stub โ a built-in replacement that will make the Windows component unnecessary in a future version.
The PGN Client is built with JavaFX and runs natively on Linux โ no emulation layer needed for the client itself. For the actual games, most classic RTS titles work well through Wine or Proton. Board games are browser-based and work on any OS.
Yes. PGN uses FusionAuth for identity management, all passwords are hashed and encrypted, and we do not share your personal data with third parties. Your gaming statistics are visible on your public profile, but personal details remain private.
